Hi-Light:

• We need to know what suits us and to never lie to ourselves. As a salaried worker, do we know what constitutes success along our chosen path? And if we do, then do we also know the right way to reach this success, or do we still need to figure it out? When we fully understand the measure of success and how to achieve it, then we next must ask ourselves if we are doing enough at the present moment or do we still need to work harder. Could it be that we are foolishly expecting results while putting out too little effort?
  

You often hear that working for a monthly paycheck is only making your boss rich.

Not a day passes in an office without people complaining about their salary and praying for a raise. And who does not wonder if the outcome of a performance evaluation really depends on the quality of their work, or if it is really all about who they know when the management position opens up? You might not be aware, but many other people in your office are secretly thinking the same thing, that starting their own business must be a whole lot better than all this!


Well, I have to warn you that they might be wrong. Do you really think that running your own business will be easy breezy?

Every salaried worker who is thinking of starting a business needs to be brutally honest with themselves. An important question that needs to be answered first is whether they are thinking of starting this business because they truly feel it will flourish or are they are only thinking of it as an escape because they can't cut it in their present position.

Well, if they can't cut it in a salaried position, then they're probably not going to be able to cut it in a CEO position either.

I agree that success for the salaryman can be elusive, but I want to stress that many more of those who quit their jobs to start a business fail completely. We might get the wrong impression from all the books and articles we read about thriving business owners, but just remember that they focus on the success stories. Nobody wants to write about failures. 

If we apply the Pareto principle, also know as the 80/20 rule, we can see that only 20% of businesses will flourish, while 80% will slowly disappear from the market. But hold on, I am not here to discourage you. I just want you to consider things carefully and not get attached to the superficial idea that being a salaryman is un-cool. Working for a monthly salary has many benefits and could also lead to prosperity.

For instance, if you hold a high position in your office then you can earn quite a large salary every month along with occasional bonuses. Sometimes managers are even rewarded with shares of stock in the company they work for. However, it's true that not everyone will have these kinds of opportunities in their employment.

So then, what are some things that cool salarymen do not do?

Firstly, cool salarymen do not think their job is boring and that there are other jobs that are much more fun than what they are currently doing. They do not bury themselves in a pile of boredom without trying to change anything.

Secondly, cool salarymen do not blame their surroundings or fail to look inward when a problem presents itself. They do not look for easy excuses and try to say their boss or colleagues are at fault for these problems.

Thirdly, cool salarymen do not keep doing things the same way while demanding that things improve. This is because they know that the old methods, which worked well in the past, do not continue to work well forever.

These are just a few examples of things you can do to be successful in any work you do. Adopt this mindset and get smart!

I will say it again, a salaryman can be cool too.
