Is vaccine needed after COVID-19 Infection?

Many people believe that if they already had COVID-19, they would get natural immunity so the vaccine is not needed. However, that belief is wrong referring to the affirmation of WHO (World Health Organization) and CDC (The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) that people who have had COVID-19 still need to get vaccinated against the virus. Let’ find out the reason.

The first reason, the vaccine protects against repeat infections or variant infections that may occur. The second reason, the vaccine helps reduce infection in mass public or eventually zero infection. In fact, doctors can’t confirm how long natural immunity will last after COVID infection. Many studies find that natural immunity won’t last forever. In most cases, immunity will remain less than 6 months depending on how and when people get infected. Consequently, if you already had COVID, it doesn’t mean you’ll be safe from that virus for the rest of your life.

Besides, the new variant of coronavirus is a factor that requires people who had COVID to get vaccinated. The test is conducted to extract antibodies from the blood of those who get infected, and then to test that blood with the new variant of COVID. The result reveals that antibodies are not effective against infections, and the conclusion is people who recovered from COVID can later become infected again.

However, a study finds that approved vaccines (in the United States) can build immunity for over 6 months and may extend to a year or many years. Research also states that vaccines can effectively protect against the new variants. Additionally, vaccines stimulate the body to build antibodies or Polyclonal antibody formation; in medical terms, and then those antibodies will destroy coronavirus spike protein. Therefore, vaccination is essential because viruses can develop new variants all the time. When we have antibodies, the body will be able to eliminate spike protein of new variants of coronavirus resulting in a decrease in the number of infections.

In general, research shows that after people who get infected receiving 1 dose of vaccine, their bodies will have higher immunity than natural immunity. Moreover, their immunities are stronger than those who never get infected and get a 2-dose vaccine. In other words, both natural immunity occurs from those who get infected and immunity obtained from vaccines can build immunity against infections. Anyway, research finds that immunity produced from vaccines resulting in longer protection. Therefore, if the vaccine is given to those who get infected, it’ll be safer than using only natural immunity for long-term protection.

A recent study shows that COVID-19 vaccine not only reduces infections but also the severity of illness. Suppose there’s an infection, the number of infectious people as a whole would be less, or an outbreak would eventually become zero. Most importantly, vaccination is the heart to end an outbreak in the whole world. Even though you’ve been infected before, getting vaccination wouldn’t harm you but will help increase your immunity and protect those around you to be safer. Love yourself…Be responsible to society…Let’s get vaccinated!
