Many new apps keep existing all the time and “Clubhouse” is now the hot new social media app ranking Top 5 on the App Store. More, it has the highest number of downloads in social media and wins over Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram. Clubhouse has become even more super hit when Elon Musk joined the chat and tweet on this new app which is developed by the Startup, Alpha Exploration Co. a Few days later after Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg also joined the chat and that app was about to explode. So, you can’t resist its popularity.

Clubhouse is a new type of social media platform and its content is based on audio-chat, without picture and message. The voice comes from Live talk or discussion and the app neither records conversations nor plays back so it’s not similar to a podcast. We can call Clubhouse a center for chat rooms covering a variety of topics available in many languages throughout the world. Anyone can open a chat room all the time. What makes this chat app remarkable is no matter who we are; if we’re invited, we’ll be able to join conversations with celebrities. Or if we’re not invited, we can raise our hand and share ideas as if we’re in the same meeting room with the world celebs. Clubhouse divides users into individual clubs or rooms. Each room includes only a host, speakers, and listeners. The chat is now available on the iOS platform and will be developing for Android next.

Another reason that makes this app most popular is Clubhouse hasn’t been opened for anyone to use it independently. It’s not a public app but an invitation-only app. Clubhouse existing members are able to invite friends to join them, and one member is permitted to invite only 2 friends. There’s nothing to worry about being invited or not because those two people who are invited at first, will invite 2 new people. It means the second invitation will double, comprising 4 members and the next round will be 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, equivalent to the formula 2 ^n. Finally, you’ll get invited.

Those who want to play Clubhouse need to download the app first and then register with real name and surname, major phone number, and reserve a cool name for @. The system will inform us to be in a queue waiting for the right to use the app. Many people think that it will take a while. Practically, if our friend has our phone number in his or her contact list, or there’re some reasons that allow the system to know that you have a friend in Clubhouse (the system can find our friend in our contact list as phone number has to be given when registration), our friend will get an alert message asking “Your friend …… (name) is applying for Clubhouse. Do you want him or her to skip the queue and join you right away?”. Once our friend taps “skip the queue” (nothing related to invite), we’ll get the right to join promptly without waiting!


Creating our chat room is easy by tapping “+Start a room”, and then 3 rooms will be available; Open room: all users in the platform can listen, Social room: limits to people we follow or “Following”, and Closed room: limits to those we’ve invited to the room or “Choose people”. After selecting the level of secret in your target room, type ‘Topic’ to name a room title and then tap Let’s go, and you’ll finally get your room. After finishing conversations, just tap End room to close the room and it will disappear. The conversation can’t be recorded and played back. Users who start a room can add Moderator to join them, and Moderator can shift listeners to be speakers, and then convert to listeners, or turn off the microphone temporarily while the speaker is speaking. That means we can control the chat room to be well-organized.

For anyone who wants to be a listener, just click a room title that you like and you can get in there. The listener can’t speak. In case the listener requests to speak, tap the “Hand Raise” icon. When the Moderator sees that, the listener will be added to the room and can join the stage. If the moderator doesn’t see the listener raise the hand or the listener is not allowed to join, the listener status will remain as usual. To leave the room, just click “Leave quietly” and then join another room as a listener, if you like.

Clubhouse chat app is the stage for those who are skilled speakers as this app focuses on speaking and listening. There has never been a stage for those great speakers to perform in public even though YouTube Live, Facebook Live, or Podcast are already available. Clubhouse is the first voice-only platform that hosts live discussions and conversations specifically created for talent speakers. It would be good that Media and Content creators follow up this trend. Nobody can tell how long the popularity of Clubhouse will last. It may soon become a daily social app. Who knows?
