Lao PDR, one of the neighboring countries bordering Thailand. If traveling by plane, it takes only a little over 1 hour. It is not only convenient to travel and filled with many beautiful tourist attractions but after China returned to open the country as a result, the tourism and service sectors of Lao PDR has also returned to activity. During the past January-June 2023, the main tourists were Thailand, Vietnam, China, Korea, and the United States.

If we talk about an investment in Lao PDR, the government has planned to develop and elevate the country to reach the goals set in many projects. Whether it is the Land Link trade gateway project that is a route to connect international trade or the construction of the China-Lao PDR high-speed rail that helps promote this area to become a transportation hub of ASEAN. In addition, the government of the Lao PDR has also mentioned the National Economic and Social Development Plan in January 2023 that will help create hope for the GDP of the Lao PDR to grow to the target number. The project to develop the Sithandon New Economic Zone in Champasak Province is considered one of the projects that Lao PDR has pushed.

Champasak Province is an area rich in natural resources and has many famous tourist attractions that help attract tourists to visit the area. Within Champasak Province, there are many districts. The area where the government sector cooperates with the private sector to create economic opportunities within the area is the Sithandon New Economic Zone Development Project, which is a joint venture between Chinese and Lao investors. The goal is to create income for local people and create economic sustainability within the country. Total investment value is more than 9 billion US dollars. Emphasis is placed on promoting investment in 4 types of businesses as follows:

           1. Production: Electronic and IT equipment manufacturing business, agricultural, handicraft and industrial product processing business.

            2. Trade: import-export business, border trade business, duty-free shop business, Shopping center business, night market business and others

            3. Services: transportation business, hotel and tourism business, financial institution business such as banking business, insurance business, education business, public health business, entertainment business and park business.

           4. Promotion and development of agricultural production

The project will begin operations from 2018 to 2050, for a total concession period of 50 years. It is expected that it will attract approximately 1.3 million foreign tourists per year, generating approximately US$205 million in annual income for the Lao PDR. and created more than 100,000 local jobs.
